Every stroller has a different personality. Make sure yours fits your traveling needs. Moms often buy more than one stroller for different purposes. If you live in the city, it should be lightweight, easy to maneuver with one hand, and easy to fold up and down for hopping on the train. If you’ll be strolling along dirt or gravel roads, consider a jogging stroller with lots of storage for packing up a picnic. At the beginning, you’ll probably want a stroller that your baby’s car seat can snap into (so you don’t have to wake her when you get where you’re going). Its also worth getting one that you can use for future babies. Although at times my ‘Orbit baby‘ is heavy for me now that she is 20 lbs, I would still purchase it in a heart beat. It snaps on and off so I never have to wake her, it does a full 360 if I want her to face us at the dinner table. Also to help avoid getting into other people’s way. It is super sturdy and well worth the splurge.
Update….Since they no longer Sell Orbit I would highly recommend the NUNA.
3. Car seat
Once, your baby starts to hit the toddler stage it is about time to find a good car seat. It’s important to buy new so that you know the car seat hasn’t been in an accident. Also, a nice cushy car seat can make car trips easier on baby (and mom too). I absolutely love our new ‘Maxi-Cosi Pria 85 Convertible Car Seat‘ I mean it looks and feels so comfy. I wouldn’t mind having one for myself! Anaiya loves it and so do I because when we do our annual drive to California (4 hour drive) she will be nice and comfy and out of mom’s ear. So I hope… $300, Amazon.com
4. Anywhere and everywhere changing pad
I this because even though you just bought that amazing changing table. You will not want to walk to that changing table everyday, trust me. You will be so tired that you might not even use this. lol Its amazing for on the go, especially when you do not want to place baby on those gross changing tables. This one I used was super easy to wash and disinfect. It carried diapers and wipes in one fold up and fit in my purse. Amazing!
5. Rocking Chair
You’ll spend hours, days, and weeks in this chair. Rocking, feeding, and falling asleep. Make sure it’s comfortable! I actually love the selection that Pottery barn has & let me tell you first hand that you need to make sure you love it. Go test it out and sit there for a while. If you were anything like me and almost 37 weeks pregnant NO one bothered me at all to get up haha. I also loved this rocker because I was also able to rest my head to the side when I would get tired. Also, Pottery Barn ALWAYS has random sales that are well worth the wait. I actually got this rocker for $400 when they were having a huge summer sale with additional 45% off. You also get that on top of your register discount so its a must to wait for the sale if you can. Wingback Convertible Rocker no need to purchase the Ottoman it is kinda useless to you when trying to breast feed.
I love this chair also because I use it for all her monthly update and pictures. Makes me all emotional looking at my tiny little Princess. Wow, feels like yesterday when she was this small and now she is 9 months old. ahhhhh okay back to the topic…
6. Baby carrier
It would be tough to walk through an airport, push our bag, and try to check in from my phone if I didn’t have one. For the traveling mom or even the mom that has a crying baby and needs to keep them close to calm them. You def need one of these…bad! My Princess never really enjoyed being in one till about 6 months (she had no choice) and we went on our first flight. Made me feel safe that she was strapped to me when we took off and when we landed. The BabyBjorn Miracle Baby Carrier is my favorite. It fits newborns without an infant insert, pillows, or cushions. It can also adjust to carry a baby up to 15 months old. The straps and waist belt help distribute weight evenly. On the inside of the carrier a tape measure keeps track of your adjustments to make sure baby is secure as he/she grows. $115 , Amazon.com .
I do suggest going into your local babies r us and trying them on before you add to registry or buy. It is really up to you and how comfortable you feel in it. A lot of my other girlfriends swear by the ‘Ergo baby’ and they REALLY love it. It is just really up to you and your preference. SO its okay to test drive before you buy…Always! $159, Amazon.com
7. Baby Bouncer
Of course it has to the the one that is all tricked out with noise, movments, and it even connects to your phone. The 4Moms Mamaroo Bouncer was literally a life saver, she loved to be in it. I was able to get a lot done (like eat dinner) for once. $240, Amazon.com
8. Baby Food Makers
Magic Baby Bullet
Ahhhhhh this is my favorite subject! As you read in my other posts about how much I enjoy making her baby food. I think it is mainly because of the gadgets I have to prepare them. It really does make it so much easier than people think it is. I didn’t even think to put this on my registry at first, I was actually given to me as a gift. The ‘Magic baby Bullet system’ is the BEST system because as a new mom I googled and got instructions on how to slowly start solids, but I was still so nervous. The system comes with a step by step guide on how to puree down to the consistency it should be. Every 4 days giving you a new solid to try and it comes with a tracker to see how your baby does. I know you can use any blender and bullet out there but I love the tiny bullet option. So when you are on the go it is quick, easy and clean up is a breeze. $60, Amazon.com
Infatino Squeez Station
It was because of this gadget I really had fun with making her baby food. Especially now that they only sell pouches in the store. When I first started her on solids I only wanted to make it fresh, I mean it is really easy moms. Especially in the beginning when your really only pureeing ONE type of solid food at a time. So please don’t be lazy and buy pre-made Banana food. Just buy a banana and mash it. It’s not that hard, it’s less expensive, and the healthier choice for baby. This station made it so easy to store and there was no mess! My next blog post will go more into detail about baby food making, so stay tuned! Only $17, Amazon.com
9. Bottle sterilizer
Okay, I know there are tons of moms out there that don’t think you need one and just to boil them in hot water. BUT it’s a process and you have to dry them by hand and lay them out after. If you want something that will do all of that for you and save you half the time. Especially because as you know, we already have a tough time staying on top of the cleaning with a newborn. The Wabi baby was the best purchase I made. Not only do I use it for bottles, I also use it for her pacifiers, and toys she dropped. Just about anything I needed sanitizing I suck in there. It’s awesome! You can thank me later… $120 Amazon.com
10. Car Mirror/ Camera
This was a MUST for me. I would have the worst anxiety when I could not see her at night. Those mirrors do not work at night and to me were kinda dangerous to have to keep looking back to get a better view of her. Or in my case, to check if she was breathing every 10 min ( yes, I was bad) lol. This camera was easy to install and eased my mind all day/night. I would see her perfectly clear day and night with its night vision feature. $120, Amazon.com
Saving the BEST for Last…
11. The Dockatot
Oh my, where do I even start with this product. This was hands down one of the best purchases I have made to date as a new mommy. I loved this because it kept her snug and in place all day/night long. The best part was when we started traveling. Her sleep routine was the same as long as she was in it. I could move her to the couch, bed, pack n play, and bathroom (When I occasionally could shower) and she would sleep comfy. It was like taking her crib with us everywhere we went. They say getting them use to this is the best transition for and infant to toddler. It also helped her sleep through the night for the first time. After that happened and I woke the next morning scared and feeling like a new women. I knew this product was worth every penny! Dockatot Delux is what you would start off with from newborn-9 months. I also included the 10% off code in the link!
What NOT to get!
1. Fancy nursing pillow
There are so many nursing pillows out there and believe me I had two. I never really used them, especially when I was on the go. I used anything around me, couch pillow, jacked, and diaper bag. They are way to bulky to travel with and take with you when you are on the go. Heck, we’ve seen moms walking and nursing at the same time (that’s talent!). I had the bobbi and she would just hang out on it when we where home most of the time.
2. Crib bumper and bedding
We know that they’re fun to pick out and add character to your nursery, but the American Academy of Pediatrics states that for SIDS prevention, no bumpers or blankets should be used in the crib. Period. Of course, I made this mistake also “It looks so cute” but was such a waste of money when I had to take it out and put it in the garage. lol
3. Nursing cover
Breastfeeding in public can leave you feeling a little…exposed and there are many cool-looking nursing capes on the market that make nursing on the go more stylish and convenient. However, a simple lightweight blanket will do the same job — and doubles as a cover for baby’s legs as well!
2. Designer “burp cloths”
Just get the cheapest ones you can find, you go through so many. Lets face it, baby throw up does not look good one designer burp clothes. Soft mini towels also do the trick.
3. Changing table
Instead, spend the money on a cute dresser, a comfy changing mat, and some cute shelves. This will save you in the long run, as you’ll use the dresser as baby gets older. Plus, you’ll get very good at changing diapers anywhere you go…trust me.
4. Wipe warmer
Room temperature wipes just seem so…cold, don’t they? Keep in mind that if you’re not on top of wetting the pads frequently, the wipe warmer can dry out, causing an overheating hazard. You’re too busy to add this chore to your list. Plus, baby should get used to room temp wipes when you’re changing diapers on the go. Yes, I had this and thought it was best thing at the time. It was actually the worst thing I bought, I got her so use to heated wipes, that when we had our first day out…she FREAKED out when I used room tempature wipes. lol New Mommy mistake, it’s fine, she got over it.
We know you had one when you were little. They’re very cute and come with white noise machines, skirts, and rock back and forth. But they’re very expensive and only last a few months at the most. Yes, I made this mistake also and she only laid in it for about 2 months till she grew out of it. Try a travel crib or playard (many come with bassinet option or you have your Dockatot)—you’ll get more use out of those well into baby’s toddler years.
So ladies, I hope you can learn from all the mistakes I made as a new mommy. haha It’s true we all go through it and think we need way more than we really do. I just hope you see that you really do NOT need everything. You can splurge of course, just make sure it’s worth it.
Also, the best thing I did was make my baby register on Amazon. I mean who doesn’t get everything they need from there anyway. Amazon Prime is your new go to shop as a new mommy, oh and they never ask you to put pants on. lol
What are some of the things you splurged on? or how many of you made the same mommy mistakes that I did…it’s okay, we are all human.
Thank you reading & I hope to hear some feedback. Let me know if there is anything else you would like me to touch on.
